Tattoo Laser Removal

We believe in educating our patients in laser tattoo removal to help you feel 100% comfortable heading into your procedure. Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received from patients. If you have a question that isn’t listed or would like to discuss one of these questions in further detail, please contact our office.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients need at least 5 to 10 treatments before achieving complete results. Patients with older or more faded tattoos may only need 3 to 4 treatments. However, there is no way to know the exact number of treatments a patient will need without first assessing their tattoo in person. Because every patient and their tattoo is different, the number of treatments needed is unique to each patient. Omni Laser uses a variety of factors to best determine the number of treatments you will need in order to completely remove your unwanted tattoo.

    • Age of tattoo
    • Size of tattoo
    • Location of tattoo
    • Tattoo ink colors
    • Depth of ink
    • Density of ink
    • Type of ink (professional vs. amateur)
    • Pre-existing scarring
    • Patient health

How long must I wait before I can receive my next treatment?

Treatments are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks apart. This duration is needed to allow your skin enough time to heal before receiving another session from the laser. Treating the skin before it is fully healed can lead to unwanted side effects and risks of pigment changes. Depending on how quickly your skin heals, the waiting period may fluctuate.

Is the laser painful?

Every patient has a different pain threshold and will react to the laser differently. Most patients compare the laser to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Other patients have expressed that the laser feels similar to having a tattoo applied. Luckily, laser tattoo removal is an extremely quick procedure, lasting anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo being treated. Omni Laser provides skin numbing solutions to help maximise comfort and alleviate any pain associated with the laser.

Are there any side effects?

Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink from the skin. Our Duality laser is designed to selectively target and shatter ink without harming any surrounding skin tissue. Furthermore, this is a noninvasive procedure that requires no cutting, scraping, or injecting through the skin. The most common side effects patients will experience are redness, swelling, itching, scabbing, and blistering. All of these side effects are temporary and heal over the weeks following a treatment.  Patients are strongly advised to refrain from picking or popping any scabs that form. These side effects are very common and are signs that your skin is reacting well to the treatment. Meddling with any scabs or blisters during the healing process can lead to infection and more serious unwanted side effects. As long as you follow proper aftercare instructions, your skin should heal flawlessly. Aftercare…

Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up?

Absolutely! Omni Laser provides all laser tattoo removal services, including complete removal, selective removal, and fading for cover-up tattoos. Many patients wish to cover up an existing tattoo with a new design. However, cover-up tattoos usually require twice the amount of ink to conceal any original artwork, especially if the existing tattoo contains a lot of dark ink colors. Laser tattoo removal helps fade existing tattoos down, giving the tattoo artist a cleaner canvas to work on and more flexibility with their design. Patients usually need only 2 to 3 treatments for effective fading.
